From Lisbon

Best day trips from Lisbon

Sintra is the obvious one, but the coast, the medieval towns of the Centro region and the Arrábida hills are all within easy reach.

Sintra

Palaces and forested hills, about 40 min by train.

Cascais & Cabo da Roca

Seaside town at the end of the Cais do Sodré train line (covered by the Lisboa Card); Cabo da Roca is mainland Europe's westernmost point.

Óbidos

A walled medieval village about an hour north; walk the walls and try ginjinha in a chocolate cup.

Fátima, Batalha & Nazaré

The pilgrimage sanctuary, a Gothic monastery and the big-wave beach — usually combined on a tour.

Queluz & Mafra palaces

Two royal palaces closer to the city; Queluz palace and gardens €13 (official).

Arrábida & Setúbal

Turquoise coves and a nature park south of the Tagus; best with a tour or car.
